Pineywoods Vineyard remains proudly family-owned, with an unwavering dedication to sourcing grapes exclusively from the state of Texas. While we endeavor to cultivate as much of our fruit as possible, the unpredictable weather occasionally presents challenges beyond our control.
Our Blanc du Bois vineyard is planted in Sabine County, on a geologic feature called the Sabine Uplift. The acidic clay soils give our region’s wines a distinctive terroir.
How it started
From City Life to Vineyard Roots
Pineywoods Vineyard was born from a bold decision shaped by nature, resilience, and a love for wine. After Hurricane Harvey upended life in Houston, Chris and Jordan Cox sought a new path in Deep East Texas. What started as an experiment in grape-growing became a full-fledged vineyard, proving that great wine can thrive in unexpected places.
A Vineyard Built on Community
The journey wasn’t easy. Clay-rich soil, unpredictable weather, and the learning curve of viticulture presented challenges, but through determination and local support, Pineywoods Vineyard grew into a destination for Texas wine lovers.
Our Story
Nestled in the heart of Deep East Texas, adjacent to the Toledo Bend Reservoir, lies our Blanc du Bois vineyard — a pioneering endeavor in Sabine County. The vineyard boasts approximately 450 vines on our premises, and we are increasing the land used for viticulture through collaborative efforts with local growers across Sabine County.
At the core of our operations is a deep sense of community pride. As stewards of both Texas and Louisiana agriculture, the winery holds a steadfast commitment to fostering agricultural awareness. Join us on our mission to revitalize the Deep East Texas region through viticulture and viniculture.
Looking towards the future, Chris and Jordan envision Hemphill as a blossoming area for more varietals and farms. Their focus is not only on producing exceptional wine but also on fostering a lasting community of viticulture in the region.
Pineywoods Vineyard is not just a winery; it is a manifestation of passion, vision, and commitment. Chris and Jordan Cox are not only cultivating vines, but also sowing the seeds for a vibrant and prosperous future for Hemphill.
